Ayurveda PSA: Say No to Ice Water

Drinking ice water dampens our digestive fire. When we drink ice water before a meal, we set up our digestion for failure and set ourselves up for discomfort and weakened immunity.

Nearly every restaurant it seems automatically gives ice water before meals. Don’t drink it! Say no! Ask for hot water instead. Additionally, avoid drinking large amounts of water immediately before and after meals.

Ever drink water so you will eat less? This makes it harder to digest the amount of food you do eat and digestion is key to proper weight, immunity, and overall good health and feeling good.

We need good digestion to absorb and build from the food we intake and to properly process waste so undigested food doesn’t build up and cause any range of health challenges. Ice water never helps digestion.

Sip hot water plain, with lemon or lime, or tea. Or don’t drink anything at all with meals. Hot water helps keep our digestive fire intact as well as prevents us from guzzling large amounts of water which also dampens the digestion.
