Ayurveda PSA: CCF – A Delicious Spice Blend to Enhance Digestion & Support Immunity

CCF = Cumin, Coriander, Fennel

Do you ever experience gas, bloating, sluggishness, fatigue, or general discomfort after eating? The spice blend of cumin, coriander, and fennel is a natural way to help your digestion and feel good after you eat. Of course, so much more goes into well-functioning digestion; like the foods we are eating, how we combine the foods we eat, what time of day we eat, the season we are in, and even the way and mindset with which we eat. For now, our focus is on spices. 🙂

Why does this matter?

Digestion is key to health in Ayurveda.

Digestion, called Agni in Sanskrit, dictates our overall health & wellbeing.

Well-functioning digestion is necessary to properly process every food and experience that we take in and interact with.

Digestion and immunity are closely connected. If digestion is off, this will affect the immune system. Better digestion = greater health.

When digestion is overloaded or not functioning optimally, undigested food and experiences can build up and create toxins in the body leading to any sort of imbalance or dis ease.

Spices boost digestive power.

Cumin, Coriander, & Fennel together (lovingly called CCF) make a blend that is generally balancing and helpful for all body types. Fennel is cooling. You can even just chew on a fennel seed. Cumin is warming. Coriander is overall cooling.

What to Do & Ways to Nourish

Steep CCF into a savory tea that can be sipped any time of day. Sip before or after meals.

Cook CCF into meals. Mmmm really yummy with rice and coconut oil.

Dry spices can be sprinkled over food the same as you might do with salt and pepper. Add healthy oil or fat if you like. The word for oil in Sanskrit also means love. 🙂

Ginger can also be added to CCF. If you are a Pitta type or feel easily heated, choose fresh ginger over dry ginger or leave it out.

Use whole or powdered CCF.

*Bonus* making CCF a regular part of your eating and wellness habits can also have the effect of lessening Spring and Summer allergies. With less build up in the body and well-functioning digestion, the body system is better able to handle pollen that comes with the loveliness of Spring and Summer.
