What is Kundalini Yoga?
Kundalini Yoga is a form of yoga that combines physical postures and movements, breath work, visualization and meditation, plus sound, mantra, and chanting. The aim of Kundalini Yoga is to work with the physical body to engage with the subtle energy of your energy bodies as well as the energy of the cosmos and all of existence.
Kundalini Yoga is yogic technology to work with and harmonise all of your energy. Kundalini energy is a natural energy that every one of us is born with. It is your birthright to have your own unique energy and spark of divine energy flowing freely through your system. The happenings of human life (like daily living in general or epigenetics and karma from multiple lifetimes) can cause obstructions to the free flow of the personal spark of universal energy. Kundalini Yoga specifically aims to clear any obstructions to the free flow of your innate kundalini energy.
Kundalini energy can be looked at as light that circulates throughout your entire body and being, through every cell and every subtle layer. Kundalini energy is often thought of as a serpent that sleeps at the base of your spine and rises as you awaken spiritually. That is kind of part of it. Kundalini is not actually a serpent at all. The home base of kundalini energy is in the base of your spine at the root chakra. Chinese medicine sees kundalini as resting in the lower Dantean, the lower portion of the bodies energy centers. However, kundalini energy naturally rises, descends, circulates, and reflects through the whole body and being. Perhaps another way to acquaint with kundalini energy is to see it as our cells filled with diamonds and gems that reflect and shine light throughout our entirety, the light of our subtle bodies and the light of infinite universal energy. These gems can be covered in muck that prevents the opulence from radiating and receiving. Kundalini Yoga applies practices to build lustre and radiance and clear the muck and dirt which can block the naturally free flowing shine and radiance of your unique spark of divine energy.
Kundalini only feels dangerous when we force and provoke and don’t care for our nervous system or don’t have a supportive environment. When we care for our nervous system (with proper food, sleep, integration time, relationships, guidance, our relationship with ourself, and proper movement to start) and allow kundalini to rise and flow we can integrate these profound changes to our inner systems in a way that is conducive to true healing and growth. We can enjoy increased sensitivity and awareness rather than feel completely overwhelmed and overloaded. (Enjoy siddhis rather than cope with overwhelm). Kundalini Yoga can have the effects of bringing to the surface that which has been pushed down or silenced. Naturally, this can have an overwhelming or unsettling effect on our life and relationships if we are out of alignment in any area. The beauty remains, that what can be clearly seen can be loved, healed, enhanced, alchemized. Kundalini Yoga is a yoga of great cosmic awareness and personal knowing and power.
Practice Kundalini Yoga to alchemize your emotions, change habits, transform your relationship with trauma, bring awareness to your natural strengths and talents that can be shared to uplift the world, heal and clear the blockages to your truest self, and more.
