Holistic Summer Ayurveda Wellness Inspiration

Summer in Ayurveda is Pitta energy. Pitta is fire and a little bit of water. But mostly fire.

Pitta can show up as a fiery and intellectual mind with great attention to detail. Pitta personality can be direct, impatient and easily agitated. Pitta also has charisma, charm, and natural leadership skills.

Pitta is passionate. Fire energy can also be very hardworking and can tend to overdo it or burn out in any endeavor.

In the body Pitta shows up as being easily overheated and may cause inflammation or rashes. Sweating, oily skin, strong body odour, and early balding can also show up in Pitta energy.

Pitta fire gives strong metabolism, high appetite, and strong digestion. Digestion is fueled by Pitta fire energy.

Here come the Summer seasonal wellness tips:

☆Enjoy cooling foods & herbs like coconut, grapes, blueberry, rose, watermelon, cucumber, cilantro, fennel, licorice. Rose petals, not rose hips. Licorice root, not the artificial candy.

☆Limit fried foods, spicy foods, & alcohol which can all increase heat/Pitta.

☆Reserve high exertion for cooler times of day.

☆Keep your cool and don’t over do it. Summer is not the time to overexert. It’s much easier to burn out! How do you keep your cool? All of the tips in this article help! Playing in the water is also a fun way to balance Pitta!

☆When in doubt or stressed out, take a rest or work out your body. Don’t act or decide from agitation. Sometimes we need this reminder.

☆Summer is Pitta season. Pitta = heat, intensity, high energy + activity, motivation, muscle, metabolism, appetite, digestion. 10 to 2 (a.m. + p.m.) is the Pitta time of day. (Fun fact – even though Pitta types have the most pronounced and visible muscles, Kapha types have the strongest muscles.)

☆Moon gaze. Cool lunar energy is the opposite of Summer solar energy of course. Basking under and gazing at the moon helps balance and calm the fiery energy of Summer and Pitta – mentally, emotionally, and physically.
